Unlike a standard 7kW charger, it can measure what your panels are generating and what your house is using, then divert surplus solar to the car instead of exporting it to the grid. It comes in a 7kW single-phase version (right for almost every Doncaster home) and a 22kW three-phase version (only relevant if you have a three-phase supply).
It has three charging modes:
- **Fast** — charges at full speed (up to ~7.4kW on single phase) regardless of where the electricity comes from. Best for overnight charging on a cheap off-peak tariff.

The Grants: What's Real and What's a Myth
Let us be blunt, because a lot of nonsense circulates online.
- **There is no general "free solar" scheme.** If an advert promises free panels to any homeowner, walk away. The schemes that do exist — ECO4, the Great British Insulation Scheme and the Warm Homes/Home Upgrade route — are tightly income-, benefit- or EPC-gated and run through the council. Most owner-occupiers in Doncaster will not qualify, and we will tell you honestly if you might.
- **The EV chargepoint grant is not for standard homeowners.** It was £350 per socket and rose to **£500 per socket from 1 April 2026**, but it is only for people living in **flats or rented properties**, plus landlords — you also need off-street parking and an OZEV-authorised installer. This is the part cowboys skip. Any solar, battery or EV installation that connects to the grid has to be registered with your Distribution Network Operator (DNO), and which DNO you have depends on exactly where you live:
