What Is Included in Every Installation

Every EV charger installation from Amppro Electrical includes a thorough pre-installation electrical assessment of your property. We check your existing consumer unit, main fuse rating, earthing arrangement, and the cable route from your distribution board to your chosen charger location. If your consumer unit needs upgrading to accommodate the additional load, we include this in our quote with no hidden costs.

The installation itself typically takes half a day for a straightforward setup. We supply and fit the charger unit, run the dedicated circuit cable from your consumer unit, install appropriate overcurrent and RCD protection, and commission the charger with full testing and certification. We handle the DNO notification on your behalf, which is a legal requirement when adding a charger above 3.6kW to your property. You receive an electrical installation certificate for the work, and we help you set up the charger's smartphone app for scheduling, energy monitoring, and solar integration.

We install all leading smart charger brands and can advise on the best option for your specific vehicle, energy tariff, and whether you plan to add solar panels in the future. Every charger we install is OZEV-approved and compliant with the latest IET wiring regulations for EV charging.

Solar and EV Charging: The Perfect Combination

Combining an EV charger with solar panels is one of the most financially rewarding home energy investments available. A typical solar system generates enough electricity to drive 8,000 to 10,000 miles per year for free, eliminating most or all of your fuel costs. When you consider that the average UK household spends over £1,200 per year on petrol or diesel, the combined savings from solar electricity and free EV charging can exceed £2,000 annually.

Smart chargers with solar integration can detect when your panels are generating surplus electricity and automatically divert it to your car. If you work from home or your vehicle is parked on the driveway during the day, this makes perfect use of energy that would otherwise be exported for a fraction of its value. For those who charge overnight, adding a battery storage system captures daytime solar energy and can release it to your charger in the evening.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A home EV charger installation typically costs £800–£1,500 depending on the charger model, cable run length, and whether your consumer unit needs upgrading. Smart chargers with solar integration, scheduling, and energy monitoring are at the higher end but offer better long-term value.

Yes — and it is one of the best combinations for long-term savings. A solar panel system generates free electricity during the day, which can be directed to your EV charger. A typical solar system generates enough energy to drive 8,000–10,000 miles per year for free. We design solar + EV charger packages specifically for this purpose.

With a 7kW home charger (the most common type), most EVs charge from empty to full in 6–10 hours — perfect for overnight charging. A typical daily commute of 30 miles needs only 1–2 hours of charging. With a solar + battery system, you can charge during the day using free solar energy.

Sometimes. If your current consumer unit is an older model without RCD protection, or if the total electrical load exceeds your main fuse rating, an upgrade may be necessary. We assess this during the free survey and include the cost in our quote — no hidden extras.
